New Delhi. Even though Punjab Kings could not make it to the playoffs in IPL 2021, the reign of KL Rahul remains intact. Rahul, who won Punjab an unbeaten 98 against Chennai Super Kings, again captured the Orange Cap. Rahul left behind Chennai openers Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Apart from this, the Punjab captain also crossed the 600-run mark in IPL 2021. Rahul scored 626 runs in 13 matches in the 14th season of IPL. He has scored six fifties.
Rahul scored 575 plus score in the fourth consecutive season.
This is the fourth consecutive season in IPL, when Rahul has scored more than 575. Rahul is the first batsman to achieve this feat in IPL. Chris Gayle and David Warner had scored 575 plus in three consecutive seasons. This Punjab batsman scored 659 runs in 2018, 593 runs in 2019 and 670 runs in 2020.
Du Plessis and Gaikwad have a chance to overtake Rahul
In the list of highest run scorers, Faf du Plessis is second and Ruturaj Gaikwad is at number three. Du Plessis has scored 546 runs in 14 matches while Gaikwad has scored 533 runs. The team of Chennai Super Kings is at number two in the IPL points table. In such a situation, both the players will get a chance to play at least two matches. Both the players have a chance to leave KL Rahul behind. In the list of Orange Caps, Shikhar Dhawan (501 runs), fifth number Sanju Samson (484 runs), sixth number Glenn Maxwell (447 runs) and 7th number Mayank Agarwal (441) are at number four.
Mohammed Shami finished fourth in the Purple Cap race
Punjab Kings fast bowler Mohammad Shami has joined the top-5 list. Shami has taken 19 wickets in 14 matches. Harshal Patel of Royal Challengers Bangalore continues to top the list of Purple Cap with 29 wickets in 13 matches. He is followed by Avesh Khan of Delhi Capitals at number two, who has taken 22 wickets in 13 matches. Jasprit Bumrah is at number three, who has 19 wickets in 13 matches. Punjab bowler Arshdeep Singh is at number 5 with 18 wickets in 12 matches.
