Mumbai. Rajasthan Royals bowling coach and former pacer Lasith Malinga has praised leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Malinga said that Chahal has shown why the leg-spinner is called a ‘match winner’ in the IPL. Chahal bowled the finest 17th over against Kolkata Knight Riders, which also took the first hat-trick of the season. He took a total of 5 wickets for 40 runs in the match. Chahal sent Venkatesh Iyer to the pavilion on the first ball of the 17th over. After this, with the wickets of Shreyar Iyer, Shivam Mavi and Pat Cummins in the fourth, fifth and sixth balls, the match turned around. Royals beat KKR by 7 runs.
Earlier, with the help of Jos Buttler’s 103 from 61 balls, the Royals had scored 217 for five. Malinga said after the match, ‘Chahal has a lot of international experience. He is the most experienced leg spinner in the country and in the tournament as well. He showed how to bowl controlled. It is also good for him to prove that he is capable of playing any level of competitive cricket.
He said, ‘The leg-spinner has more options to take wickets. He showed today how he can change the match in one over by taking wickets. He has shown all the leg spinners that he is a match winner. KKR coach Brendon McCullum said that it was a good match but Buttler and Chahal snatched the victory from them.
He said, ‘You can’t give a great player like Chahal a chance to build pressure. We played well but made some silly mistakes. But it happens. Now after three consecutive losses, we have to get back on the winning path in the next matches.
