The second day’s play was washed away in the rain, so it has been decided to conduct 98 overs on the third day.

Team India won the toss on the first day of the match and decided to bat first. KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal added 117 runs for the first wicket, proving captain Virat Kohli’s decision to be absolutely right. Mayank was dismissed for 60 runs and in the same over Cheteshwar Pujara fell victim to a golden duck without opening an account. After this, Rahul along with captain Virat took the score to 199 runs. Virat got out after scoring 35 runs. Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane together did not allow any more wickets to fall on the first day. Rahul returned not out on 122 while Rahane scored 40 runs. India had scored 272 runs for three wickets on the first day.
