Women’s IPL auction to be held in Mumbai today
90 players will be bidding in WPL 2023 auction
New Delhi. The players’ auction for the Women’s IPL (WPL Auction 2023) will be held in Mumbai today i.e. on Monday. In this auction, which is going to be held for the first time, 90 players are expected to bid. The most important thing about the auction is that in the IPL auction, where men used to play the role of auctioneer, in the WPL 2023 auction, this role will be played by a woman. Malika Advani will be seen hammering the auction at Jio World Convention Center in Mumbai.
Earlier in the IPL, Richard Madley, Hughes Edmeads and Charu Sharma have appeared in the auction. Now this question must be arising in your mind, who is this last Malika Advani? Come on, we tell you. Actually, Malika is the curatorial advisor of the Center for Modern and Contemporary Art, Mumbai. He is also a partner in Art India Consultants firm. This will not be the first time that she will play the role of an auctioneer. Earlier she has played this role in Pro Kabaddi League 2021.
A pool of at least 15 players has to be prepared
All the five teams of the women’s IPL will have to keep at least 15 players in the squad. In the auction, a franchisee will have to spend at least Rs 9 crore out of Rs 12 crore. All franchisees will have the right to buy 6 foreign players.
Bidding will be done on 90 players
409 players have been shortlisted for the auction. Of these, 246 are from India while 163 will be overseas players. 8 players from associate countries are part of the auction. Players like Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Shefali Verma, Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma have kept their base price at Rs 50 lakh. Money can rain on these players in the auction.
