Former left-arm spinner Maninder Singh, opening batsman Shivsunder Das, who has experience of playing more than 20 Tests for India, has applied for the post of senior selectors of the Indian Cricket Board. Along with this, Nayan Mongia and Ajay Ratra are also among the candidates who are in the race to be part of the new senior men’s selection committee of BCCI.

However, it has not been confirmed whether former fast bowler Ajit Agarkar has applied or not. Many believe that if Agarkar applies, he is sure to become the chairman of the selection committee. Salil Ankola, the current head of Mumbai’s senior team selection committee, former wicketkeeper Sameer Dighe and former batsman Vinod Kambli have applied from Mumbai.

The last date of application for the new selection committee was till 6 pm on Monday (November 28). More than 50 people are understood to have applied. Most of these tests have been played by Maninder Singh (35 Tests) and Das (21 Tests). Das, Prabhanjan Malik, Rashmi Ranjan Parida, Shubhamay Das and Saurasish Lahiri have applied from the eastern region. Amay Khurasia and Gyanendra Pandey have applied from the central region.

BCCI may appoint Cricket Advisory Committee for interview


With the last date for applications ending on Monday (November 28), the BCCI is now likely to appoint a Cricket Advisory Committee to conduct interviews before announcing its decision. The first task for the new selection panel will be to select the Indian team for the limited overs series at home against Sri Lanka in 2023.
