The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki said that shortage of electronic components will result in production loss in the first quarter of the current financial year. However, the company expects some improvement in the situation in the next quarter. For the past several months, Maruti has had to cut production due to a shortage in the supply of semiconductors. Because of this, the company is finding it difficult to meet the demand.

in the last financial year Maruti had a loss of production of about 1.7 lakh units. The company’s Senior Executive Officer (Sales & Marketing), Shashank Srivastava said, “In the third quarter of the last financial year, we had a loss of around 45,000 units and in the fourth quarter the loss was around 38,000 units.” The number of pending orders with the company has increased to more than four lakh units. It has the highest number of bookings for the Ertiga at around one lakh. Apart from this, this number is 60,000 for the Brezza SUV and more than 30,000 units for the recently launched Fronx.

Regarding this Srivastava said that company Ltd suffered production losses in April and this situation is expected to continue in May and June as well. He said that the situation could improve from July. The company’s Jimny SUV will be launched early next month. Maruti has received more than 30,000 bookings for it. The company had introduced the Jimny at this year’s Auto Expo. For Maruti Suzuki, this can be helpful in strengthening the position in the SUV segment.

The company is getting a good response for the Jimny SUV ahead of its launch. It will be sold through the company’s showroom chain Nexa. Maruti has the Grand Vitara and the recently launched Fronx in this segment. It gets a 3-spoke steering wheel and a conventional twin-pod analogue instrument cluster. Its center console houses a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The Jimny is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine, which is capable of generating maximum power of 103bhp and peak torque of 134.2Nm.
