Mithali Raj, the first woman cricketer to be awarded the coveted Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, expressed hope that her achievements will inspire the girls of the country to pursue their dreams. This 38-year-old veteran of Indian women’s cricket was honored by President Ram Nath Kovind with the country’s highest sports honor Khel Ratna. A film on the life of Mithali, who has played more than 300 international matches in her career, is also going to be released soon.

Mithali is one of the 12 sportspersons to have received this prestigious award in the current year. Mithali wrote on Twitter, “Women in sports are powerful catalysts of change and when they get the appreciation they deserve, it inspires many other women to follow their dreams.” .’
