New Delhi. Mahendra Singh Dhoni has made another record in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021). Chennai Super Kings captain Dhoni made a record of catches in the 44th match of the season against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Sharjah on Thursday. He has become the first player to complete 100 catches for a franchise in this T20 league. Chennai beat Hyderabad by 6 wickets and with the win they also became the first team to reach the playoffs of the season.
In the same match, the former captain of Team India completed his 100th catch for CSK, when Ravindra Jadeja’s over played a role in sending Wriddhiman Saha to the pavilion. The Chennai team’s Suresh Raina (98 catches for CSK) and Kieran Pollard (94 for Mumbai Indians) are currently close to Dhoni, who are included in the list of players with the most catches for a franchise in IPL.
MS Dhoni is already at the top of the list of players with the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in IPL. He recently surpassed former Kolkata Knight Riders captain Dinesh Karthik. Dhoni has sent 158 batsmen to the pavilion in 215 matches as a wicketkeeper, which is 8 more than Karthik. Dhoni has 119 catches and 39 stumps as a wicketkeeper in this T20 league.
Dhoni also took catches of Jason Roy, Saha and Priyam Garg against Hyderabad on Thursday. He has taken at least 3 catches in an innings of IPL for the 10th time. AB de Villiers, who has done this 5 times, is at number two in this list. Talking about the match, Chennai Super Kings defeated Hyderabad by 6 wickets on Thursday. With the victory in this match played in Sharjah, Chennai secured a place in the playoffs. On the strength of their bowlers, Chennai restricted Hyderabad to 134 runs for 7 wickets. After this, the target was achieved by losing 6 wickets with 2 balls remaining. Dhoni hit the winning six off the ball of Siddharth Kaul.
