New Delhi. Since the resumption of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 in the UAE, India’s 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2021 has been the subject of discussion. Ishaan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Varun Chakraborty etc will feature in their first ICC event for ‘Men in Blue’. At the same time, some other stars like Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Sanju Samson etc. have been kept out of the roster of this big tournament. Although, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may make some changes in the final squad by 10 October, but no such indication has been given by the board yet.
Despite no indication of any change in the World Cup squad from the BCCI, fans and experts have continued to voice their opinion on possible changes. Former England captain Michael Vaughan has talked about the inclusion of Shardul Thakur in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup. He feels that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni) will also talk to India captain Virat Kohli as well as head coach Ravi Shastri about this.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni is not only the captain of CSK but also the mentor of the Indian team selected for the T20 World Cup. Vaughan believes Dhoni can talk to Kohli and Shastri about the pacer’s inclusion in the World Cup squad after taking a closer look at what Shardul did for Chennai in the second leg of the IPL. .
Michael Vaughan said in a conversation with Cricbuzz, “The mentors of the Indian T20 team (MS Dhoni) are behind the stumps. He is the captain of CSK and you probably think he is going to tell Virat and Shastri that you know chalo…” Vaughan’s remarks came in the wake of Shardul Thakur’s stellar performance against Delhi Capitals, where he defeated CSK in the 15th over. Took two wickets to get back in the game. If Shimron Hetmyer had not shown his brilliant game then Chennai Super Kings would have won this match.

Vaughan compared Shardul Thakur with Sir Ian Botham. Along with this, he praised the Indian fast bowler’s ability to ‘make things’. He said, “Shardul Thakur is very similar to Ian Botham. He gets things done with the ball in his hand. He did this in the Test series. He is doing in IPL. Shardul has the ability to do things. He has that deceptive speed. You see him bow down. You’d think he’s doing it normally, but he’s a very good cheat. The ball that Ashwin got, it came from him.”
