Hardik Pandya, the all-rounder of the Indian cricket team, made his T20 International debut against Australia in January 2016. Hardik was included in the World Cup squad only after three matches of his debut match. Pandya has now revealed an anecdote related to MS Dhoni, remembering his debut match once again. Hardik, who recently led Gujarat Titans to the IPL 2022 title under his captaincy, said it was only after playing three matches that Dhoni told him that he would be in the World Cup squad. This all-rounder of Team India considers himself lucky that he got a chance to debut under Dhoni’s captaincy.
Hardik Pandya while talking in SGTV podcast said, ‘When I joined Team India, I saw the people I grew up watching. Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Ashish Nehra were all star players. I think I am the first player who conceded 21 runs in his first over. I thought okay, this could be my last over. I consider myself very lucky to have played under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. He trusted me and helped me reach this point.
In his first match, Hardik had already conceded 21 runs in the first over. He took 2 wickets for 37 runs in his debut match. However, he did not get a chance to bat in all three matches. But he managed to take 3 wickets. The star all-rounder said, ‘After the third match of my international career, Mahi bhai told me that you will be in the World Cup team. It was a big deal for me to know in the third match that you will play in the World Cup. I didn’t bat in any match. But Mahi bhai assured me that you have proved yourself. But yes it was like a dream come true for me.
Hardik has not played any international match since T20 World Cup 2021. However, now he will be seen playing under the captaincy of KL Rahul in the T20 series against South Africa from June 9. India has to play a five-match T20 series with South Africa. After this, the team will play two T20 matches with Ireland.
