New Delhi. Ravi Shastri’s current contract as the head coach of the Indian cricket team expires after the T20 World Cup. Former chief of selectors MSK Prasad believes that Rahul Dravid is the ideal candidate to handle the role. Shastri has been in this post since 2017. He did a very good job during his tenure but Team India could not win a single ICC trophy under his guidance.
Meanwhile, some reports have even claimed that Shastri’s contract will not be extended. Hence, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to appoint someone else for the national team. Prasad supported Dravid to take over the post. The former chief of selectors expressed his desire to see Dhoni in the role of mentor even after the ICC T20 World Cup.
Prasad told ‘Sports Tak’, ‘I had this feeling in my heart, in my mind. I was recently challenged by my colleagues that definitely after Ravi bhai (Ravi Shastri), Dhoni has to come in the role of a mentor and Rahul Dravid as a coach. When I was doing commentary during IPL, I discussed it with my teammates. I felt that Rahul would be better for Team India after Ravi Bhai.
He even said that the Dravid-Dhoni pairing will prove to be a boon for the national team. Prasad said, ‘The pairing of Rahul as a coach, Dhoni as a mentor is going to prove to be a boon for Indian cricket. Both are very calm. One person is very studious and the other is hardworking. More importantly, the number of players that are coming out now have been groomed by Rahul, who was also India A’s coach.
