Mushfiqur Rahim’s amazing, first time Bangladesh batsman achieved a special achievement in test cricket


Chittagong. Mushfiqur Rahim created history on the fourth day of the first Test match being played between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Rahim completed his 5000 runs in Test cricket by scoring 85 runs till lunch. He has become the first Bangladesh batsman to achieve this feat. Rahim shared a 164-run partnership with Liton Das. Bangladesh has gained an edge over Sri Lanka on the basis of their partnership. Sri Lanka had scored 397 runs in the first innings, in response to which Bangladesh have scored more than 450 runs in the first innings.

Rahim completed his 5000 runs in his 81st Test match by adding 2 runs off the delivery of fast bowler Asitha Fernando. The pair of Rahim and Liton added 67 runs against the disciplined bowling attack of Sri Lanka on a slow pitch in the morning session.

35-year-old Rahim made his Test debut in 2005 against England at the historic Lord’s ground. He played a brilliant innings of 105 runs in 282 balls. During this he hit 4 fours.

It is quite interesting that Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal was also close to completing 5000 Test runs in this innings, but due to muscle strain, he retired hurt on 133 runs. He is 19 runs away from this feat. Although later he came out to bat, but Iqbal could not add more runs to his account and got out.
