India’s top table tennis players like Achant Sharath Kamal, G Sathiyan and Manika Batra sealed their place in the quarter-finals with victories in their respective matches at the National Games here on Friday. In men’s singles, Sharath defeated Jeet Chandra of West Bengal 4-2 (7-11, 11-6, 8-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-6), while Sathiyan defeated Ronit Bhanja of West Bengal. But won by the same margin (7-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-6, 11-9, 11-6).
However, in the pre-quarterfinals of women’s singles, Manika Batra faced a tough competition. Manika defeated Karnataka’s Kushi V 4-3 (4-11, 11-8, 12-10, 4-11, 11-5, 8-11, 11-7) in a close contest.
In other women’s singles matches, West Bengal’s Ahika Mukherjee registered a one-sided victory over seventh seed Swastika Ghosh of Maharashtra and Olympian Sutirtha Mukherjee defeated fifth seed Anusha Kutumbale (Madhya Pradesh).
In men’s singles, Telangana’s FR Snehit and Maharashtra’s Deepit Patil defeated third seed Sanil Shetty and fifth seed Anirban Ghosh respectively.
