Neal Mohan will be the head of YouTube, Chief Executive Susan Wojcicki resigns

Susan Wojcicki, the chief executive officer of video sharing service YouTube, has resigned after nine years at the helm. YouTube’s Chief Product Officer, Neal Mohan has been named the new head of the company. YouTube, owned by Alphabet, the company that runs Google, has been facing tough competition from Tiktok for the past few years.

Wojcicki has a blog post I informed about my resignation. She said that she will focus on family, health and personal projects. Prior to this, she has held the responsibility as Vice President of Ad Products at Google. Wojcicki, one of the early employees of Internet search engine Google, also worked at Intel.

A graduate of Stanford University, Neal joined Google in 2008. He is leading YouTube Shorts as Chief Product Officer. He has also worked with software company Microsoft. at the end of last year youtube had faced trouble in India when the central government asked the company to remove three channels for making false claims about government welfare schemes and spreading fake news. These three channels were declared by the Fact Checking Unit of the Press Information Bureau as giving false and misleading information.

Late last year, a lawsuit was filed in the US accusing Alphabet and some other companies of tracking the YouTube activity of children under the age of 13 without their parents’ consent. These companies are accused of tracking children’s YouTube activity and using it to show them advertisements. The US Court of Appeals in Seattle is reviewing the case. Under US law, the Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general have the authority to control the collection of personal data about children under the age of 13 online. In this case, it has been alleged that the law has been violated in the data collection done by Google. It was told that Hasbro, Mattel and Cartoon Network pull children towards their channels because of their knowledge of activity tracking.
