The BCCI had announced the 15-member Indian team for the T20 World Cup to be held this month only last month. In this team, experienced off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin returned after a long time. Apart from them, Varun Chakraborty and Rahul Chahar were also selected in the T20 World Cup squad, while the names of experienced players like Shikhar Dhawan and Yuzvendra Chahal were not included in this list. Former Indian selector MSK Prasad is also surprised by the selectors’ decision to keep Chahal out of the T20 World Cup squad.

Prasad told even Sports, ‘I think he is our best T20 bowler in terms of wickets. He has done brilliantly in the last 4-5 years. Fortunately or unfortunately, what the selectors might have thought is a competition between Rahul Chahar and Yuzvendra Chahal. He (Chahal) never let down his captain Virat on a flat Bangalore wicket and he has always given you wickets.
The former selector said that Chahal’s performance has declined over the years while Chahar has taken 13, 15 and 13 wickets respectively in the last three seasons of the IPL. Chahal played only four ODIs for India in 2020, in which he took seven wickets. He also took seven wickets in nine T20 matches. “But if you look at his performance in the last one-and-a-half years, there has been a slight decline in his performance,” Prasad said. Rahul Chahar on the other hand has been instrumental in winning consecutive IPL titles for Mumbai Indians. Maybe it went in favor of Chahar.
