New Delhi. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has expressed displeasure over media reports that said that some senior players had complained about Virat Kohli to BCCI Secretary Jay Shah. BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal has termed the reports about Kohli’s complaint as baseless. With this, Dhumal once again reiterated that BCCI had no role in Kohli’s relinquishment of T20 team captaincy and it was Virat’s own decision.
Virat had announced to step down as the captain of the Indian T20 team on 16 September. After this, a report said that Kohli had gone to the selectors and asked them to remove Rohit from the post of vice-captain. A day ago, some media reports said that two senior India cricketers Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane had complained to Shah about Kohli after the World Test Championship defeat at the hands of New Zealand.
On these reports, Dhumal told The Times of India, “The media should stop writing this nonsense. Let us tell you that no Indian cricketer has made a written or oral complaint to the BCCI. BCCI cannot answer every false report. We saw some reports which said that there will be changes in India’s World Cup squad. Who said this?
On Virat leaving the captaincy, Dhumal said, “The media asked me if the BCCI has taken a decision and I said no, because it was true. The BCCI had not taken any decision or even discussed it. Virat took his own decision and told it to BCCI and that was his call. Today the media is saying that the players have complained to the BCCI. So, on behalf of the board, I can tell you that there has been no complaint.”
Taking a jibe at the media, Dhumal said that a section of the media knows almost everything about the Indian team. But he did not even know about this till 24 hours before Virat’s resignation. Dhumal further said that such reporting harms Indian cricket more than anything else.
In fact, according to a report published yesterday by the New Indian Express, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane spoke to Jay Shah after Virat Kohli behaved in the dressing room. He spoke to Jay Shah about Virat’s captaincy. Apart from this, another report said that Ashwin has also complained about Virat to the board secretary.
