WC: PCB creates hurdles for India-Pakistan match
PCB not ready to play league match against India in Ahmedabad
New Delhi. Less than 3 months are left for the ODI World Cup to be held in India in October-November. But, till now the schedule of this tournament has not been released. The CEO of the International Cricket Council had recently said that the schedule of the World Cup would be announced early this week. But, this has not happened so far. A major reason for the delay in the schedule has come to the fore. In fact, the Pakistan Cricket Board has not yet agreed to play the World Cup league match against India in Ahmedabad. And this is one of the main reasons for the delay in announcing the World Cup schedule.
The BCCI, the host board of the ODI World Cup, has already shared the draft schedule of the tournament with the ICC, which has been sent to all the concerned cricket boards for feedback. According to this draft schedule, the tournament will start on October 5 and there will be a clash between India and Pakistan on October 15. This match is to be played in Ahmedabad. But, PCB is not ready to play against India in Ahmedabad.
Agreed for the final on the problem of playing league matches
Sources have told The Telegraph that Pakistan’s foreign ministry has not yet given permission for the Pakistan team to play in Ahmedabad due to security issues. Even after getting security clearance and approval from the Government of Pakistan, the PCB wants a guarantee for the security of the players from the ICC. According to the tentative schedule, Pakistan will play the remaining 8 matches in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata.
PCB has problem in playing league match against India in Ahmedabad. But, if Pakistan reaches the final, then PCB has no objection to playing in the world’s largest cricket stadium.
Pakistan government will decide on the issue of security
A source close to the development told The Telegraph, “Since the Pakistan team’s departure to India for the World Cup is dependent on permission from the government, the PCB has forwarded the documents to the concerned ministry, which is looking into the matter. Looking at the sensitivity of the situation, the cricket board will take a further decision after what the government says. Neither PCB chairman Najam Sethi nor any official information from the ICC has come out in this matter.
ICC gave deadline to PCB
The source further added, “A deadline has been given to the PCB to understand the draft schedule for the World Cup. Cricket matters related to the World Cup will be reviewed by the Pakistan Board, while anything related to security and other issues will be decided by the government and others concerned.
For the first time the schedule of the World Cup was delayed so much.
This is a new controversy in the ongoing tussle between India and Pakistan over the hosting of the Asia Cup. Now what is the stand of PCB on this issue, a decision on the schedule of the World Cup will be decided only by this. This is the first time that there has been such a delay in releasing the schedule and schedule of the World Cup. The schedule of the 2019 World Cup was released 13 months in advance.
