A major reason for the delay in the schedule has come to the fore. In fact, the Pakistan Cricket Board has not yet agreed to play the World Cup league match against India in Ahmedabad. And this is one of the main reasons for the delay in announcing the World Cup schedule.

The BCCI, the host board of the ODI World Cup, has already shared the draft schedule of the tournament with the ICC, which has been sent to all the concerned cricket boards for feedback. According to this draft schedule, the tournament will start on October 5 and there will be a clash between India and Pakistan on October 15. This match is to be played in Ahmedabad. But, PCB is not ready to play against India in Ahmedabad.

Sources have told The Telegraph that Pakistan’s foreign ministry has not yet given permission for the Pakistan team to play in Ahmedabad due to security issues. Even after getting security clearance and approval from the Government of Pakistan, the PCB wants a guarantee for the security of the players from the ICC. According to the tentative schedule, Pakistan will play the remaining 8 matches in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata.

PCB has problem in playing league match against India in Ahmedabad. But, if Pakistan reaches the final, then PCB has no objection to playing in the world’s largest cricket stadium.

A source close to the development told The Telegraph, “Since the Pakistan team’s departure to India for the World Cup is dependent on permission from the government, the PCB has forwarded the documents to the concerned ministry, which is looking into the matter. Looking at the sensitivity of the situation, the cricket board will take a further decision after what the government says. Neither PCB chairman Najam Sethi nor any official information from the ICC has come out in this matter.
