New Delhi. Prithvi Shaw equaled many Indian legends by scoring a century in the debut test. On this day on 6 October 2018, Team India defeated West Indies by an innings and 272 runs in Tests on the basis of Shaw’s century. This is also the biggest win by an innings of Team India in Test history. Shaw scored 134 runs in the match. Earlier, former veteran batsman Virender Sehwag also scored 105 runs in the debut test. But Shaw had overtaken Sehwag in terms of runs. Shaw also received the Player of the Match award.
Team India captain Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bat in the Test which started in Rajkot on 4 October. In the very first over, KL Rahul got out without scoring a run. After this, Prithvi Shaw made a big partnership of 206 runs for the second wicket with Cheteshwar Pujara (86). Shaw faced 154 balls. Hit 19 fours. Captain Virat also scored 139 and Ravindra Jadeja scored 100 not out for India. The team declared the innings by scoring 649 runs for 9 wickets.
West Indies team could not reach 200 runs in both the innings
In reply, the West Indies team got out after scoring just 181 runs in the first innings. Roston Chase scored the highest 53 runs. Off-spinner R Ashwin took 4 wickets. After the follow-on, the West Indies team could not make a big score even in the second innings. The team was reduced to 196 runs. Opener Kiren Powell scored 83 runs. Left arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav took 5 wickets. In this way, Team India won the match by an innings and 272 runs. It was the biggest win for the team in terms of innings. The match was over in three days. Earlier, in 2018 itself, the team had defeated Afghanistan by an innings and 262 runs.
Prithvi Shaw made a place in the special list
Prithvi Shaw had made a place in the special list as soon as he scored a century in the debut test. Earlier, 14 players had scored a century in the debut test for India. It included legends like Mohinder Amarnath, Gundappa Vishwanath, Mohammad Azharuddin, Virender Sehwag, Sairav Ganguly, Suresh Raina, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma. Dhawan holds the record for playing the most innings of 187 runs for India in the debut test.
