OPINION: Are world cricket and Team India being used as political weapons? 10 questions

(Abhijit Majumdar)
Last Sunday, the Dubai International Cricket Stadium became the Times Square of political propaganda. The great promotion of ICC came to the fore during India’s first match against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup. This can be called a kind of propaganda, which was burning in the hearts of millions of people. But it was equally reassuring and confusing.

The Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement has created resentment among the people of the Indian subcontinent. The Indian cricket team unexpectedly knelt several thousand miles away in support of racial discrimination against blacks. While Hindus and Sikhs are being slaughtered in their own Kashmir and neighboring Bangladesh, Hindus and Sikh populations are being decimated in Afghanistan and Pakistan. So many questions arise from this.

Why did the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) allow this bizarre political ritual? Why did Team India coach Ravi Shastri and captain Virat Kohli immediately agree to the suggestion of the International Cricket Council (ICC)?

The question arises that how India, which contributes heavily to the revenue of cricket, succumbed to the ICC so easily? Isn’t the Indian cricket management aware that BLM is funded by forces like the Open Society Foundation and the Ford Foundation? The Open Society Foundation is funded by Hungarian-American investor George Soros. He is the same man who has openly promised a billion dollars to topple governments like Narendra Modi and who wage war against the concept of nation state globally. The Ford Foundation was banned by India for funding anti-government and anti-democratic activities.

Are Indian cricket management and players unaware that BLM supporters wanted to demolish Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi’s statue in London calling him a racist? Even if we accept that the fight against racism in the West is more important to Team India than protesting against Bangladeshi Hindus, the BLM’s support for membership of a specific, politically-funded group is more important. equal, not accepting the greater cause. Should a national team support a political group, no matter how good it is?

How this support for the BLM, the Irrational for India Movement, differs from Gandhi and the Indian Muslims awkwardly adopting the 1920 movement to establish an Islamic caliphate in Turkey, and the latter cleverly making it local and secular. It was named ‘Khilafat Movement’?

Why did Pakistani player Mohammad Rizwan offer Namaz in the middle of the game? The evening prayer time or Maghreb starts around 5.47 pm in Dubai. The match started at six in the evening. Rizwan could offer prayers before the match or in the middle of the innings.

Former Pakistan fast bowler Waqar Younis openly made communal remarks praising Rizwan for offering Namaz in front of Hindus. Current PM Imran Khan, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Saqlain Mustaq, Mohammad Yusuf, Shoaib Akhtar, Shahid Afridi, Sohail Tanveer and generations of other Pakistani cricketers have tried to convert other cricketers, or to advance the Holy War or Ghazwa. Videos have surfaced. Has the BCCI asked the players to take a knee, or more importantly, has ever proceeded to impose sanctions against this cricket jihad?

Why do Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli and his wife actor Anushka Sharma campaign selectively against crackers on Diwali but not against mass slaughter on Bakrid? (These are the personal views of the author.)
