Pakistan got a new star, did the feat at the age of 22, which even Sachin-Kohli could not do

Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by 4 wickets in first test
Pak opener Abdullah Shafiq named Player of the Match
22-year-old Shafiq played an unbeaten innings of 160 runs

New Delhi. Pakistan cricket has got a new star in the form of Abdullah Shafiq. 22-year-old Abdullah Shafiq played the most important role in Pakistan’s historic victory against Sri Lanka. He did the feat on Wednesday, which even legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli to Rohit Sharma could not do. Pakistani opener Abdullah Shafiq played an unbeaten innings of 160 runs in the fourth innings of the first Test against Sri Lanka. During this he faced a record 408 balls.

Host Sri Lanka set a target of 342 runs for Pakistan to win in the Test match played in Galle. Making this score on a falling pitch was a challenge like making the impossible possible. But Pakistan did not give up. He scored 344 runs in 127.2 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. This impossible was made possible by Pakistani opener Abdullah Shafiq, who was playing only the sixth Test match of his career.

22-year-old Abdullah Shafiq faced 408 balls in an innings of 160 runs. This is only the fifth time in 145-year Test history that a batsman has played more than 400 deliveries in the fourth innings. Before him, only Mike Atherton and Herbert Sutcliffe of England, Sunil Gavaskar of India and Babar Azam of Pakistan had played so many balls in the fourth innings.

Pakistan had enough time chasing the record target, all it needed was a batsman to stand on the crease with full patience. Young batsman Shafiq took up this responsibility. Abdullah Shafiq’s patience can be gauged from the fact that he hit only 7 fours and a six in his innings of 408 balls. Shafiq remained at the crease for 8 hours 44 minutes in the fourth innings. He scored 13 runs in 47 balls in the first innings of Pakistan.
