New Delhi. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) President Rameez Raja has told the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on the game that they use bulletproof vehicles for security reasons. Responding to questions related to the benefits and allowances that he will get as board chairman, Rameez said, he is not a big financial burden on the PCB, as he himself bears the expenses on many other things apart from his health. A source close to the meeting said, “Rameez Raja told the committee members that they only used the bulletproof vehicle of the PCB due to security concerns. He always avoids taking any kind of profit from the PCB.
The source further added, “None of the members of the National Assembly committee asked Rameez about his future as the chairman of the board after the change of government, nor did anyone question him about resigning.” Why not think as the other board presidents before him had left their post after changing the government.
Rameez Raja appears before parliamentary committee for the first time
Rameez Raja made it clear to the members of the committee in the two-hour long session that he only takes money for the daily allowance, hotel and travel that the PCB chairman gets under the service rules. During this meeting, he said that even those who had been the chairman of PCB before him also used bulletproof cars due to security threats. This is the first time that Rameez Raja appeared before a parliamentary committee as PCB chairman.
Standing committee seeks PCB audit report from Raja
The source said that members of the parliamentary committee had asked Rameez during the session why the PCB had not submitted the Auditor General’s report on annual expenses. To this he replied that it is a government document and can be made available to him at any time. However, the members have asked him to personally submit the audit report in the next meeting of the standing committee. The source said Rameez had confirmed to the committee that the auditor general’s office had audited the accounts of the board since 2012-13.
Standing committee happy with work of Rameez
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Sports had also asked Rameez Raja about the performance of the Pakistan cricket team, future tours and the Pakistan Super League. Most of the members have expressed satisfaction with the performance of the team since Rameez Raja took over as the chairman.
