Before batting after losing the toss, both Gujarat openers Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill gave a great start to the team. Both added 67 runs for the first wicket. Shubman was stumped by Mahendra Singh Dhoni on the ball of Ravindra Jadeja in the seventh over. Gill scored 39 runs in 20 balls. Gill and Saha batted well but Gujarat Titans young batsman Sai Sudarshan proved to be very dangerous for the Chennai bowlers. Sai Sudarshan played a stormy inning of 96 runs in just 47 balls, due to which the Gujarat team was able to make the biggest score of the IPL final, 214 for 4 wickets.

Sudarshan and captain Hardik made a century partnership of 110 runs for the third wicket. Hardik remained unbeaten after scoring 21 runs. Pathirana took the maximum two wickets from Chennai. Deepak Chahar and Ravindra Jadeja got one wicket each.
This is the first time in the IPL that players from the same team have won the Purple and Orange caps for the second time in a row. Last year, the Orange Cap was named after Jose Butler for Rajasthan Royals, while Yuzvendra Chahal got the Purple Cap.
