Podcast: The new champion of the 15th edition of the IPL gave the Indian cricket team a new contender for the captaincy!

In the last few years, the IPL has also been tightened on a scale regarding the captaincy of the Indian team. After Dhoni’s retirement, Virat, Rohit, Rahane and Lokesh Rahul were given the command of the Indian team, in which the performance shown in the IPL has also played a role. Now Hardik has also associated his name with all these. It is probably too early to see him as a contender for the captain of Team India, but it can be denied in the coming times.

SI am present with this podcast covering the cricket enthusiasts of the week, accept Sanjay Banerjee’s salutations – Suno Dil Se

After a busy two months, the 15th edition of the IPL gave birth to a new champion. Gujarat Titans is now the winner of IPL and it has achieved this feat in its very first attempt. Obviously if the team is successful then the credit will go to the captain. Hardik Pandya was an under-rated player in terms of captaincy, as he had little experience of captaincy. Now being the captain of the champion team, his discussion is abound. Hardik’s popularity as a captain has left behind three big captains of Indian cricket this time. RCB captain Virat Kohli had already given up the captaincy before the season, but the pressure of own expectations can increase on both Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. Hardik has not only won the trophy, but has also won the hearts of crores of cricket lovers.

However, by winning the IPL in its debut year, Gujarat Titans has told that success can be achieved if the team is fielded in an efficient and timely manner. Before the season, neither Gujarat nor Hardik as captain nor Ashish Nehra as head coach was giving any good ratings. After becoming the champion, now everything is as clear as a mirror.

Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets in the final played in front of a record number of 1.25 lakh spectators in Ahmedabad. The final proved to be absolutely ‘low score’. Looking at the score card, it can be inferred that the final was absolutely one-sided. But anyone who has seen the match knows that Gujarat’s victory was not easy. His batsmen also had to struggle to get the target. Nevertheless, Hardik Pandya turned the tide of the match with his game. In the final, apart from taking three wickets, Hardik scored a useful 34 runs and in the end the team became the champion.

Many players have contributed tremendously throughout the season in making Gujarat the champion. Hardik scored the highest 487 runs. Apart from this, David Miller contributed 481 runs, Shubman Gill 483 and Wriddhiman Saha contributed 317 runs. Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan also got runs in between at a better strike rate.

In the bowling, Mohammed Shami 20, Rashid Khan 19, Lockie Ferguson 12 and Yash Dayal contributed significantly to Gujarat’s victory by taking 11 wickets. Rashid also captained in one match.

The runner-up Rajasthan Royals’ dream of becoming champion again after 14 years could not be fulfilled, but it is also true that like Gujarat, it was not giving any value in the beginning. This team, captained by Sanju Samson, traveled to the final giving some shocking results. First finished second in the points table and then defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore in the second qualifier. It is also a coincidence that the result of the last three matches of the league match was by a margin of seven wickets, while the result of three out of four matches of the playoff was also the result of seven wickets.

In this journey of Rajasthan Royals, Jos Buttler batted fiercely and scored 863 runs in 17 innings including four centuries and four half-centuries. Butler remained the ‘showman’ in IPL 2022. Whenever he came to the crease, his eyes were on the same side. Captain Sanju Samson scored 458, Devdutt Padil 376, Shimron Hetmyer 314 and Yashasvi Jaiswal made 258 runs to ease Rajasthan’s journey.

Similarly, Yuzvendra Chahal took 27 wickets in bowling. Apart from this, famous Krishna 19, Trent Boult 16, Ashwin 12 and Obed McCoy with 11 wickets left no stone unturned to take Rajasthan to the top two.

It is true that from the start, CSK and Mumbai Indians were out of the race for the playoffs but doubts remained about Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals. Delhi could not even make it to the last four, while RCB’s dream of becoming a champion in the IPL could not be fulfilled again. The way Kohli could not get any ICC trophy as the captain of the Indian team, in the same way, neither the captain nor the player got a chance to build a champion in the IPL. Obviously Virat Kohli must have been disappointed the most.

By the way, Lokesh Rahul and Quinton de Kock comes after Butler in terms of scoring the most runs, who scored 616 and 508 runs respectively. Whereas in bowling, Wanindu Hasaranga’s 26 and Kagiso Rabada’s 23 wickets comes after Chahal. Dinesh Karthik must be discussed who has proved himself to be a serious cricketer. At the strike rate of 183, his 330 runs came out of the bat no less. Sanju Samson became the highest wicket-keeper with 16 wickets, while Riyan Parag proved himself to be the best fielder by taking 17 catches.

The T20 format has always been considered against bowlers and for this reason, this time the maximum number of 1062 sixes were hit in which 45 sixes were named by Butler alone.

After the IPL, the time has come for the Indian cricketers to show their talent at the international level. South Africa’s team is going to reach India after a few days. Players from both the countries will enter the five-match T20 series. The series will start with the first match in Delhi on Thursday. After this, matches will also be held in Cuttack, Vizag, Rajkot and Bangalore. The players of the Indian team will gather in Delhi tomorrow and after that they will prepare themselves by spending time in practice. After getting relief from Corona, now there will be no ban on spectators to watch these matches and they will be able to come to the stadium. Also, the players will not have to live in the bio-bubble. In this way players and spectators will no longer be bound by all the restrictions.

Players like Rohit and Virat have been rested in the series, while some new players are going to get a chance. It is a mere coincidence that the 18-member Indian team definitely includes some player from all the 10 franchises that have played in the IPL.

In the order of the international series, the Indian team will go on a tour of West Indies next month after completing the tour of Ireland and England. According to the ongoing schedule, a series of three ODIs and five T20 matches will be played there. Apart from its matches, Port of Spain and St. Kitts, two other matches will also be held in Florida, USA.

Meanwhile, with a tweet by BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, various things started happening in the cricket corridor. Ganguly wrote in it that now he is about to start a new work. This means that Ganguly has resigned from the post of president. Hours after the news spread rapidly, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that Ganguly had not resigned.

And finally domestic cricket. The second leg of India’s biggest competition, the Ranji Trophy, is starting on Monday. Before the IPL, its pre-quarterfinal matches were played. Now it is starting with the quarter finals. In the quarter final matches, Bengal will face Jharkhand, Mumbai will face Uttarakhand, Karnataka will face Uttar Pradesh and Punjab will compete with Madhya Pradesh. Famous Krishna is not included in Karnataka’s team, he has been kept in the Test team against England. Mayank Agarwal, who is running out of Team India, has returned in this team. Manish Pandey will be the captain of this team. Probably this domestic season of Indian cricket will also come to an end after the conclusion of Ranji Trophy.

So that was it, our podcast on the week long cricket enthusiast – Suno Dil Se – Allow Sanjay Banerjee to go on till next week, Namaskar.
