Punjab kings Wasim Jaffer Slams Sunrisers Hyderabad Says If You Don’t Trust Umran Malik as a Bowler Better to Bring in a Batter

New Delhi. IPL season 16 has not been very good for Sunrisers Hyderabad so far. The team is currently in ninth place with only 4 points in seven matches. Amidst the poor results, questions are now being raised on the decision-making ability of Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Aiden Markram. Former India opener Wasim Jaffer has criticized Aiden Markram’s decision of not using fast bowler Umran Malik’s quota of four overs during the game against Delhi Capitals. The right-arm fast bowler bowled just two overs against the David Warner-led side and returned without taking a wicket. Jaffer feels that Sunrisers Hyderabad could have fielded a batsman instead of bowling only two overs to Umran Malik.

Wasim Jaffer said on ESPN Cricinfo, “Sunrisers Hyderabad are playing with Umran Malik, but he bowled only two overs in the match against Delhi. He could have played with any batsman in his place. If you don’t trust him as a bowler, it would be better to bring a batsman into the team. Delhi’s score was 62/5 at one point, but Hyderabad allowed them to reach 144. If he had bowled better, things could have been easier for him. It was a mistake by Sunrisers Hyderabad to let Delhi make 144.

Umran Malik came into limelight during the 15th season of IPL due to his pace. Last year, he emerged as the highest wicket-taker (22) for Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, IPL 2023 has not been kind to the 23-year-old bowler so far. He has taken five wickets in six matches so far in IPL 2023. Umran played his first IPL match in 2021. Overall, he has taken 29 wickets in IPL so far.

Umran Malik bowled 2 overs against Delhi Capitals in the last match and gave away 14 runs. Washington Sundar took 3 wickets to stop Delhi Capitals for 144 runs. This score looked challenging for Sunrisers Hyderabad, but in the end Aiden Markram’s team won the match by 7 runs. Akshar Patel was elected ‘Man of the Match’ due to his all-round show. Sunrisers Hyderabad now have to play the next match again against Delhi Capitals on Saturday.
