Badminton Asia Championships 2022 PV Sindhu: Indian star shuttler PV Sindhu made her place in the semi-finals of the Asian Badminton Championships 2022 by defeating He Bing Xiao of China in the women’s singles quarterfinal match on Friday. Former world champion Sindhu defeated two-time World Championship bronze medalist Xiao 21-9, 13-21, 21-19.

The Indian shuttler soon eased into the match and took an 11-2 lead at the first break in the opening game. On the other hand, Xiao made many mistakes, due to which Sindhu (PV Sindhu) won the first game. In the second game, world number 9 Bing Xiao strengthened his defense and came back strongly after leveling the score at 10-all. The Chinese shuttler won 11 of the next 14 points to take the match to the decider. Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, put her experience to good use and scored six straight points at the start of the third game. However, PV Sindhu lost five points in a row before confusion over the score brought the game to a halt.

Xiao continued the attack even after the short break and went on to score three straight points despite trailing 20-16. However, taking advantage of the early lead, Sindhu maintained her composure to make it to the semi-finals. World No. 7 Sindhu was trailing 7-9 in one-on-one encounters, but it was her third consecutive win over her Chinese rival. The last time the two played each other in a Tokyo Olympics bronze medal match, Sindhu won in straight sets.

26-year-old Sindhu will now face world number two Akane Yamaguchi of Japan for a place in Sunday’s final. Apart from this, top Indian badminton players Saina Nehwal, Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen were already out.
