Indian team off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has opened up about the scary flying incident during his 2020/21 tour of Australia. It was a coveted series as India emerged as one of the finest Test teams to register their name in the history books when they beat the hosts 2-1 for their second successive win over Kangaroo soil.
When the Indian team was flying from Melbourne to Sydney for the New Year Test, their flight was hit by a thunderstorm and their flight turned into a very scary mandar. Recalling the memories of this journey, Ashwin told how scary this journey was for him and the team. Off-spinner Ashwin told about this during the trailer launch of Bandon Mein Tha Dum web series.
Legendary cricketer Ashwin said, “We were flying to Sydney and during the flight there was a thunderstorm. It was so scary that for a moment I thought the flight would never land.” Ashwin had also tweeted about the incident after Australia successfully landed in Sydney. He wrote at the time, “Flying from Melbourne to Sydney in the middle of a storm!.”
India won that series 2-1. Even in the first match, India were bundled out for 36 and after that match regular captain Virat Kohli returned to India for the birth of his first child. In such a situation, Ajinkya Rahane took over the command of the team and helped India get a historic victory. Rishabh Pant played some good innings in that series.
