New Delhi. Former India captain Rahul Dravid can be made the interim coach of the team. After the T20 World Cup 2021, the tenure of coach Ravi Shastri is coming to an end. They do not want to take the responsibility of the coach further. In such a situation, Dravid can be made the interim coach of the team for the series against New Zealand (India vs New Zealand) in November-December. Dravid had also gone on a tour of Sri Lanka as a coach in the past.
According to the news of the Indian Express, during the New Zealand series, Rahul Dravid can be given the responsibility of interim coach. Many players from Australia have expressed their desire to become coaches. But BCCI is first looking for an Indian for this work. The board wanted Dravid to be a full-time coach, but he has refused to become a coach due to excessive travel.
Awaiting Board Consent
A BCCI official said on the delay in applying to the coach, “We wanted to get the nod from whoever is suitable for the coach. We do not want to create such a situation that no suitable person is found after the application. The official said that this would be a shameful situation. So the board is looking for a suitable candidate first and till then the responsibility can be given to Rahul Dravid. The board has spoken to some people, but so far no positive response has been received from their side.
Along with Shastri, many other veterans will leave the team
Along with coach Ravi Shastri, the tenure of bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar is also ending after the T20 World Cup. Trainer Nick Webb has also spoken about leaving the post after the World Cup. Earlier the board was thinking of retaining Shastri as the coach till the New Zealand series, but later dropped it. Team India has to play 3 T20 and 2 Test series by New Zealand in November-December.
