Rameez Raja was blown away by the victory of the Pakistan team in Galle, remembered the day he defeated India in 1987

Karachi: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) President Ramiz Raja praised the team, equating the recent victory against Sri Lanka in the Galle Test to a historic victory in the Bangalore Test against India in 1987. Pakistan created history by achieving the target of 342 runs for victory in the opening match of the two-Test series against Sri Lanka on the fifth day of the match. The team took a 1-0 lead in the series with the biggest goal being achieved in the fourth innings at Galle.

Rameez told a news channel in Pakistan, “From the point of view of difficult conditions, I would say that this is one of Pakistan’s best Test wins in terms of chasing. In the context of difficult conditions, I would say that Galle’s win is equivalent to the victory we had against India in Bangalore on a spinner-friendly pitch.

Former Test captain Rameez was part of the Imran Khan-led team that defeated India in a low-scoring Test in Bangalore in 1987. Pakistan won this test by 16 runs. Rameez said that giving Babar complete freedom helped in the formation of a strong team.

He said, “This team is his property and I am happy that he takes full responsibility for the performance of the team as captain and the other players in the team.” I can interfere but I have never tried to do so. We have given Babar a free hand and he has made a good team.
