Madhya Pradesh cricket team has created a new history in domestic cricket under coach Chandrakant Pandit. Madhya Pradesh won its maiden title by defeating 41-time champions Mumbai by 6 wickets in the final of Ranji Trophy. With this victory, the team also fulfilled the unfulfilled dream of its coach Chandrakant Pandit. As a coach, Pandit has achieved a lot of success. ‘Dronacharya’ of domestic cricket Pandit’s success can be gauged from the fact that in the last 6 years, three teams under him have become champions. Mumbai and Madhya Pradesh have won the title once each while Vidarbha has won the title twice.
Under the captaincy of Chandrakant Pandit, Madhya Pradesh had managed to reach the final in 1998–99, but their dream of winning the title was shattered by a 96-run defeat to Karnataka. However, since then Pandit has achieved considerable success as a coach. Teams under him have won the Ranji Trophy six times so far. In these, Mumbai has done this feat thrice, Vidarbha twice and now Madhya Pradesh once.
Chandrakant Pandit’s success as a coach started in 2003 and continues till date. For the first time under him, Mumbai won the Ranji Trophy in 2003. After this, Mumbai won the title in 2004 and 2016 also under Pandit’s coaching. After Mumbai, Pandit had led Vidarbha to the title twice in 2018 and 2019. After Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh has been successful in winning the title under his coach. This victory of Madhya Pradesh is even more special because the team has won the Ranji Trophy title for the first time.
