Rapido reaches Supreme Court against order to stop service in Maharashtra

Rapido, which provides bike taxi and autorickshaw services through the app, has challenged the Bombay High Court order to stop the service in Maharashtra in the Supreme Court. The Bombay High Court had last week asked Roppen Transportation Services, which operates the Rapido, to stop services in Maharashtra immediately as the firm had to get permission from the state government. Earlier, the Bombay High Court had reprimanded a Pune-based bike taxi firm for providing services without obtaining a license from the Maharashtra government and directed it to stop the services immediately. Roppen Transportation appealed to the High Court after receiving a communication from the Maharashtra government last month. The state government had refused to grant the bike taxi services license to the firm. The Maharashtra government said that there is no policy to license or fix fares for bike taxis in the state.

In this regard, the Maharashtra government told the High Court that a committee has been formed to explore the possibility of making guidelines for bike taxis in the state.
