Ravi Shastri bluntly – Team India ahead of Virat-Rohit in T20, told 4 point formula of selection

Shastri believes that the time has come for Team India to move ahead of Virat and Rohit Sharma in T20 and young players get a chance in the team immediately.

Ravi Shastri said on ESPNcricinfo’s show, “Young players should be given a chance in whatever first T20 series Team India plays after IPL. Players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jitesh Sharma and Tilak Verma should be given a chance immediately. Players like Rohit and Virat Kohli have proved themselves. What they are, it is not hidden from anyone. But, now I would like to go with the young players. So that players like Virat and Rohit stay fresh for ODI and Test cricket. However, when Shastri was asked the question, what if players like Rohit-Kohli and KL Rahul want to play T20 cricket?

Ravi Shastri said in response to this question, “There is still more than a year left in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The criteria for selection in Team India should be only the current form. One year is a long time. Players can be in form or their form can go. Experience, fitness will also matter in team selection. Who is the most talked about player at the moment, who is consistent in his performance, who is scoring runs? All these aspects also have to be seen.

Shastri is also of the opinion that specialist players should be selected for each position. No player should be forced into a role he has not played before and a good mix of left and right handed batsmen is also necessary in the team.
