New Delhi. Ravindra Jadeja suffered a knee injury during the Asia Cup last year. He has been away from the field since his surgery. However, now he is ready to return. He has joined his home team Saurashtra and two days later will be seen playing in the last match of the elite group of the team in this season of Ranji Trophy. Jadeja has been selected in the Indian team for the first 2 matches of the 4 Test series against Australia next month. But, his playing will depend on fitness. In such a situation, Jadeja wants to be match fit before the Australia series. Therefore, before the fitness test, he will play against Tamil Nadu in the Elite-Group B match of Ranji Trophy starting from January 24.
Apart from Jadeja, Jaydev Unadkat and Cheteshwar Pujara have also been included in the Saurashtra team. Saurashtra coach Neeraj Odera said in a conversation with Sportsstar, ‘His training and workload management will be according to the protocol of the National Cricket Academy. In fact, I had sent a WhatsApp message to Jaddu, telling him that the youngsters were eagerly waiting for him to join the team. He replied to me that I myself am very excited about joining the team for a long time. It has been a long time since Jadeja played a Ranji Trophy match for Saurashtra. The coach said that adding a player of Jadeja’s caliber to the team would boost the morale of the young players.
This will be Jadeja’s first match in the last 5 months. He had shared a single video of his training on social media in the past. Jadeja, 34, was injured during the Asia Cup last year. He was dropped from the team after the match against Hong Kong. After this he had surgery. He was also ruled out of T20 World Cup 2022 due to injury. Jadeja has been included in the Indian team for the first 2 Tests against Australia. However, he will be able to be a part of the team only when he passes the fitness test.
