Now just one day is left for the start of the Test series between India and New Zealand. Big drama took place two days before the start of the match, when opener KL Rahul was ruled out of the first Test due to injury. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took immediate decision after this and included Suryakumar Yadav in the team. Now the question arises that who will open for India in place of Rahul in the first Test and who among Suryakumar and Shreyas Iyer will get a chance to make their Test debut.
If the report of ‘Indian Express’ is to be believed, then Suryakumar may get a chance to make his debut against the Kiwi team. Suryakumar also did catching and bowling practice on Tuesday. Talking about Shreyas and Suryakumar, both come from Mumbai. Both the cricketers often get a place in limited overs cricket due to their brilliant game, but have not got a chance to play in Test yet. India’s opening space has become completely vacant due to opener Rohit Sharma’s rest in this match.
It is reported that India can also go against New Zealand with the pair of Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill. Mayank has batted in the top order in 24 first-class innings out of 34. Under normal circumstances, Shubman or Suryakumar, who does not open, can be fed at number four in the middle order instead of Virat Kohli. Cheteshwar Pujara is still the first choice to play at number three.
Indian squad for first test against New Zealand: Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Cheteshwar Pujara, Shreyas Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane, KL Bharat, Wriddhiman Saha, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Ishant Sharma, Mohammad Siraj.
