RIL will buy the team in the upcoming T20 league of South Africa, aim to take the Mumbai Indians brand further


Mumbai. Further strengthening its growing international presence in cricket, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) on Wednesday announced that it will acquire a franchise in South Africa’s upcoming T20 league. The new franchise will take the Mumbai Indians brand further. RIL will come closer to acquiring a T20 team in the UAE-based league.

Reliance Industries has been instrumental in developing the sports ecosystem through ownership of cricket franchises and football. RIL aims to uphold the best practices in leagues, sponsorship, mentorship, and athlete talent management across various sports in the country.

In addition, Reliance Foundation Sports, the CSR wing of RIL, provides opportunities to athletes across the country to become champions in multiple sports. Not only this, she is leading the country’s Olympic movement by leading India in hosting global sporting events.

Earlier this year, RIL director Nita Ambani made a successful bid to host the prestigious International Olympic Committee’s 2023 season, which was made possible after a long gap of 40 years. The record 5-time IPL champion Mumbai Indians team is also owned by RIL.
