New Delhi. Delhi Capitals said that aggressive wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant will remain the captain of the team in the remaining matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021), which is being restored from September 19. Before the suspension of IPL 2021, Delhi Capitals had performed brilliantly under Pant, which gave him full hope of retaining the captain. The Delhi team, however, made it to the IPL finals for the first time last year under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer.
Pant was handed the captaincy of Delhi due to Iyer’s injury before the start of IPL this year. Delhi, led by Pant, won six out of eight matches before the league was suspended and are leading with 12 points. The franchise tweeted from its official Twitter handle, “The team of Delhi Capitals, co-owned by JSW-GMR, announces that Rishabh Pant will continue as the captain of the team for the rest of the IPL 2021 season.” The same time came when Virat Kohli also announced to leave the captaincy of the T20 team.
Rishabh Pant is also being considered as the captain of India in future. If Rohit Sharma becomes the captain of the T20 team, then Pant can be given the responsibility of the vice-captain. Virat Kohli also wanted Pant to become the vice-captain. For this he also went to the selection committee. If the team of Delhi Capitals wins the IPL title, then its captain Pant will become the biggest contender. Apart from Pant, Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul and Mumbai Indians fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah are also in the race for vice-captaincy.
