new Delhi: Top seeded Indian shuttler B Sai Praneeth suffered a straight game loss to France’s Christo Popov in the men’s singles match of the Orleans Masters 2022 Super 100 badminton tournament here on Thursday. Praneeth lost the last 16 match 12-21, 11-21 in 35 minutes. He reached the round of 16 after defeating Jan Lauda of the Czech Republic on Wednesday.

Indian players got disappointed

Ira Sharma lost 11-21, 17-21 to Huan-Yu Wendy Chen of Australia in the women’s singles match, but the seventh-seeded Indian pair of Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto defeated Ty van der Lekk and Deborah Jill of the Netherlands 21- 18 defeated 22-20. Earlier, India’s trio of Kiran George, Meraba Luwang Mesnam and Mithun Manjunath advanced to the men’s singles pre-quarterfinals by winning their second round matches of the Orleans Masters Super 100 badminton tournament here.

George made a comeback by defeating third seed Mark Kalzou of the Netherlands 19-21 21-16 23-21. Qualifier Meraba defeated eighth seed Toby Penty of England 21-16 21-16 while Manjunath beat compatriot Siddharth Pratap Singh 21-14 21-10. George, who won the Odisha Super 100 tournament in January, will face Indonesia’s qualifier Christian Edinata.

These players reached the next round

Meraba will face Hong Kong’s Chan Yin Chak and Manjunathan against Denmark’s second seed Hans Kristian Solberg Wittinghus in his next match. Indian pair of Ashwini Bhatt K and Shikha Gautam registered a 21-23 21-12 21-10 win over Amalie Schulz and Christine Bush. The pair of PS Ravikrishna and Shankar Prasad Udayakumar also entered the pre-quarterfinals. He defeated Marvin Datko and Patrick Sheil 19-21 21-11 21-12.
