Namibian fast bowler Ruben Trumpelman took not one, not two, but three wickets in a single over, destroying Scotland’s top order on Wednesday. The special thing is that it was the first over of his innings. Trump, playing the sixth match of his career, bowled the best of his career, taking three wickets for 17 runs. During this, he showed the way to the pavilion to George Munsey, Callum McLeod of Scotland and then captain Richie Barrington. Due to his brilliant performance, Scotland could score only 109 runs in the stipulated 20 overs.
Apart from Trumpelman, Jane Frylink took two wickets giving just 10 runs in four overs while bowling economical. This is only the second time in T20 International cricket that a bowler has taken three wickets in the first over. Earlier in June 2019, Angelo Mathews of Sri Lanka did this feat against West Indies. Apart from this, Trumpman is the fifth bowler overall to take three wickets in T20 cricket. Shoaib Akhtar, Yasir Arafat, Angelo Mathews and West Indies’ Fidel Edwards have done this before him.
Only 7 fours and two sixes were hit in Scotland’s innings.
The dominance of the Namibian bowlers can be gauged from the fact that Scotland’s innings hit only seven fours and two sixes. No batsman from Scotland could play well. Michael Leask, who came out to bat at number six, was the top scorer with 44 runs. Apart from him, Chris Greaves scored 25 and opener Matthew Cross scored 19 runs. One of the features of Trumpman’s bowling was that during the three wickets he took, none of the batsmen could even lose their account.
