New Delhi. Youngsters were given a chance in the team selected for the West Indies tour of the Indian cricket team. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rituraj Gaikwad and Mukesh Kumar were given place in the team by the selectors. Sarfaraz Khan, who scored a lot of runs in Ranji Trophy, was not selected for the tour. Controversy has arisen since this decision. Many veterans including former captain Sunil Gavaskar raised questions about this.
Speaking to PTI, a BCCI official associated with the team selection said on condition of anonymity, “Such angry reactions are understandable but I can tell you that behind Sarfaraz being sidelined repeatedly. The reason is not just cricket. There are many reasons due to which he is not getting selected.
“Are the selectors mindless to ignore a player who has scored more than 900 runs in two consecutive seasons?” he added. One of the major reasons behind not being selected in the team is his fitness, which is not of international standard. Sarfaraz will have to work very hard in this matter and will have to lose weight and come back with more fitness. Only batting fitness is not the only criteria for selection.
