Former Australia Test captain Tim Paine has taken an indefinite break from all forms of cricket. This is yet another shocking decision by Penn, who stepped down from the captaincy after the sexting scandal surfaced. While Cricket Australia has chosen Pat Cummins as the new Test captain, Steve Smith will be the vice-captain of the team. With just 12 days left for the start of the Ashes series, Paine’s decision is astonishing. It was believed that Tim Paine, who had left the captaincy, would be associated with the team as a wicket-keeper batsman.
Confirming that @tdpaine36 is stepping away from cricket for an indefinite mental health break. We are extremely concerned for his and Bonnie’s well-being and will be making no further comment at this time.

Penn’s manager James Henderson said he was concerned about Penn and his wife Bonnie. Last week, Penn’s sexting scandal came to the fore in front of the whole world. Henderson wrote on Twitter, ‘In view of mental health, Tim Paine has decided to take an indefinite break from all forms of cricket. We are deeply concerned for him and Bonnie. We will not say anything more about this. Paine had said before the scandal last week that he would retire from Test cricket after the team’s successful Ashes series.
