New Delhi. Shakib Al Hasan’s all-round play helped Bangladesh beat Papua New Guinea (PNG) by 84 runs in a Group B match of the ICC T20 World Cup. With the win, Bangladeshi team qualified for the Super 12 stage. Left-arm spinner Shakib broke the backbone of PNG’s batting line-up with four for nine as the team were bundled out for 97 in 19.3 overs while chasing a target of 182 runs. Bangladesh had scored 181 runs for seven wickets by the fine innings of captain Mahmudullah (50 off 28 balls) and Shakib (46). Shakib was adjudged man of the match.
Shakib has become the best all-round performer in the T20 World Cup. Before him, this record was in the name of West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who took four wickets for 38 runs in addition to scoring an unbeaten 66 against India at Lord’s in 2009. Bravo has won the T20 World Cup title twice. Earlier, Shakib Al Hasan took three wickets in addition to scoring 42 runs against Oman and he was adjudged the man of the match. Shakib has been the hero of Bangladesh’s last six victories in ICC tournaments. Every time this all-rounder has been adjudged the man of the match.

Shakib Al Hasan has so far taken 39 wickets in 28 matches in the T20 World Cup. With this, he has equaled former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid, who has taken the same number of wickets in 34 matches. Shakib overtook Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga (38 wickets) and Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal (36 wickets) in the matter of taking the most wickets. Shakib has achieved the feat of taking four wickets in an innings thrice in the T20 World Cup.
In the case of scoring the most runs, overtakes Rohit Sharma
Shakib has now come at number six in terms of scoring the most runs in the T20 World Cup. This player has scored 675 runs in 28 matches with the help of three half-centuries. He left behind Rohit Sharma (673 runs in 28 matches), Kumar Sangakkara (661 runs in 31 matches) and Brendon McCullum (637 runs in 25 matches).
