Bangladesh’s top all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan on Thursday decided to cancel his contract with betting website BetWinner following a warning from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). BCB President Nazmul Hassan gave this information. Najmul said, “I just got to know that he has written a letter to the board. I haven’t read that letter yet, but I have come to know that they have accepted all the conditions of the board. He has said that he is ready to accept everything we say.
It is noteworthy that all types of betting is banned in Bangladesh. Shakib announced his partnership with Caribbean betting company BetWinner News on social media last week, after cricket administrators asked him the reason.
BCB president Nazmul Hasan said in a statement issued on Thursday that he was expecting a response from Shakib and that no compromise would be made. If Shakib does not cancel the contract with Betwinner, he will be shown the way out of the team.
He said, “There is no doubt about it. He will have to come out of this contract or else he will no longer be a part of the team.” Shakib has then informed the BCB that he will be terminating the deal with BetWinner today.

Shakib was expected to captain Bangladesh in the Asia Cup to be held in the UAE and the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia in October-November. Najmul replied that if he did not terminate the contract with BetWinner, there would be no question of captaincy. “He won’t even be part of the team. There is no scope for compromise in this. We are very clear on this.” He also said that the squad for the Asia Cup will be announced after Shakib’s reply.
