The left-handed batsman had earlier led the team on the New Zealand tour in November when Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul were rested. Young batsman Shubman Gill, who replaced Dhawan in the team, took full advantage of the opportunity by scoring 4 centuries including a double century in 7 matches.
Shikhar Dhawan told news agency PTI, ‘Ups and downs are a part of life. With time and experience you learn. This gives me a lot of strength. I gave my best. I have no complaints if someone is doing better than my best. He said that’s why that person is in the team and I am not there. Wherever I am, I am very happy and content. I make sure my process is strong. Of course there is always a chance of me coming back in the team.
