Former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar’s statement has come to the fore after Pakistan’s thumping win over England. Akhtar has once again compared Babar to Indian run machine Virat Kohli. Akhtar said that Babar has repeated the same work in Karachi which used to be the specialty of Virat Kohli. Let us tell you, Babar played an unbeaten innings of 110 runs in the chase of 200 runs against England. This is his second century in T20Is. Pakistan won the match by 10 wickets to level the 7-match series 1-1.
Comparing Babar Azam to Virat Kohli, Shoaib said, ‘Babar Azam’s century in the chase, which used to be Virat Kohli’s specialty at one time, Babar has repeated that. Babar’s class is better than any other batsman in the world. Babar’s elegance and strike is superb.
He said with this, ‘Today the players have done very well and I think Pakistan needs this run rate and strike rate. Today Babar Azam has shown why he is the number 1 player in the world. When he runs at a good strike rate, he also eases Rizwan’s path. Babar also gave the finishing touch today. Strike rate is very important in T20, today the strike rate of both the batsmen is more than 160, it is difficult to do this in every match but need to play run wise so that other batsmen don’t get pressured.
The pair of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan has become the first such opening pair in world cricket to chase 200 runs without losing a wicket. But Akhtar says that 200 runs are common in the subcontinent.
The former fast bowler said ‘fast bowlers die where they get 400 runs in a day. What will the poor bowler do when 400 runs are scored? But it is in the subcontinent, Australia have hit India, the highlight of Pakistan’s victory was that they chased 200 runs without losing any wickets. This is not the first time Pakistan has done this, did something similar against India last year. It’s a sub-continent wicket, it’s common to have 200 on 200. But Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan’s chase has to be praised.
