New Delhi. David Warner made a memorable appearance in the ICC World T20 2021 after a bad Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Warner, who scored a half-century against New Zealand in the final match of the T20 World Cup, was adjudged the ‘Player of the Tournament’, but former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar is not happy with it. The Australian team led by Aaron Finch has won the T20 World Cup trophy for the first time since the tournament’s inception in 2007. Australia defeated Kane Williamson’s New Zealand (Australia vs New Zealand) by 8 wickets in the final match.
Shoaib Akhtar, who came to Dubai to watch the T20 World Cup final match, said that the ICC has taken an ‘unfair decision’ by naming David Warner as the best player of the T20 World Cup. Akhtar made a tweet in this matter and called this decision of ICC wrong.
Babar Azam became the captain of the ICC T20 World Cup team, not a single player from India was included in the team
He claimed that the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award should have been given to Babar Azam, the captain of the Pakistan cricket team. Shoaib Akhtar wrote in the tweet, ‘Really curious to see Babar Azam become the Man of the Tournament. Definitely an unfair decision.’
David Warner played a series of match-changing knocks for the Aaron Finch-led side in the recently concluded T20 World Cup. The Australian opener also lived up to his expectations in the final match between Australia and New Zealand at the Dubai International Stadium. David Warner played a crucial half-century (53) in Australia’s historic win over New Zealand in the ICC World T20 final.
David Warner was named ‘Player of the Tournament’ for his remarkable performance in the 2021 edition of the ICC event. Warner was the second highest run-scorer from an ICC event. Pakistan captain Azam topped the batting charts with 303 runs in 6 matches. Warner has now scored the most runs (289) by an Australian batsman in a single edition of the T20 World Cup.
David Warner has overtaken Matthew Hayden by achieving this feat in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The Australian opener is also the second player after England’s Kevin Pietersen (2010) to win the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award from a World Cup winning team.
