New Delhi. Shoaib Akhtar has said a big thing about the semi-final match played between India and Pakistan in the 2011 Cricket World Cup. On 30 March 2011, the second semi-final between India and Pakistan was played in Mohali. It was a matter of happiness for India that Team India won this match by 29 runs and entered the final. After that India was also successful in winning the World Cup title. On the other hand, the sad thing for Pakistan was that they lost a big chance to win the World Cup. Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar remembers this semi-final match a lot.
Shoaib Akhtar was not included in Pakistan’s playing XI in this semi-final played between India and Pakistan. He was declared unfit before this great match. Talking to Sportskeeda, Shoaib Akhtar reminisced about the Mohali semi-final. He said that what the team management did to me was unfair.
Shoaib Akhtar further said, ‘The memory of Mohali semi-final bothers me. I should have played. Should have fed them. This was totally unfair on the part of the team management. I knew I had only 2 matches left. I wish that the flag of Pakistan should be high in Wankhede and the team plays the finals. I knew India was under a lot of pressure. The whole country and media was looking at him. That’s why I believed that we don’t have to take pressure.
Sachin-Sehwag gets out
Shoaib Akhtar said, ‘I knew the first 10 overs of the match would make a big difference. Had he been a part of the team, he would have dismissed leading batsmen including Indian team batsman Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag. The former bowler recalled the pain of watching his team lose the match in the dug-out. Shoaib Akhtar said, ‘He was so disappointed for not playing that he broke some things in the dressing room.’
