Shooting WC: India topped the Shooting World Cup, won a total of 8 medals including 3 gold medals


Changwan. India on Thursday topped the medal tally in the ongoing ISSF Shooting World Cup thanks to a stupendous performance by its shooters. India finished the tournament with eight medals – three gold, four silver and one bronze – putting it well ahead of hosts Korea and Serbia in the medal tally.

The day began on a bright note as Arjun Babuta, Shahu Tushar Mane and Partha Makhija defeated Korea 17-15 to win the 10m air rifle team gold, the country’s third gold. The Indian trio defeated Korea’s Seunggo Bang, Sangdo Kim and Hajun Park. This is the second gold medal for Arjun and Shahu in the World Cup.

The second medal of the day came in the form of a silver as Elavenil Valarivan, Mehuli Ghosh and Ramita were beaten 16-10 by Korea’s Jae Kium, Yunseo Lee and D Jeewon in the final in the women’s section. In the final of the men’s 10m air pistol team event, the Indian team put up a fighting show against the experienced Italian trio of Paolo Monna, Alessio Toracchi and Luca Tesconi. But he had to face defeat by 15-17, due to which the country got another silver medal.

India’s third silver medal of the day came in the 10m air pistol team women’s event, where the ‘new look’ team of Rhythm Sangwan, Yuvika Tomar and Palak went down 2-10 to a strong Korean contingent, which won the Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Kim Minjung was also included.
