Ahead of the T20 series against Sri Lanka starting today, Australia has suffered a major setback. Team’s star bowler Sean Abbott has been ruled out of Australia’s tour of Sri Lanka after he fractured his left forefinger while batting in the nets. Abbott was part of the T20 series against Sri Lanka. But he was not selected for the first T20 match. He was later to join the ‘A’ team for two 50-overs and two four-day matches.
Cricket Australia has not announced Abbott’s replacement for the T20, but Scott Boland has been called in to replace him in the ‘A’ team. Meanwhile, Peter Handscomb has also returned home with his partner. His partner is pregnant and soon he can become a father. He was part of ‘A’ squad. Jimmy Pierson has been included in the ‘A’ team in his place.
Sri Lanka has announced a strong squad for Tuesday’s first T20I against Australia in Colombo. Sri Lanka suffered a crushing 4-1 defeat in the T20I series in Australia this year, but he is expected to give a better performance at home. Australia had announced the team on Monday itself under the captaincy of Aaron Finch. Team’s top spinner Adam Zampa and Test captain Pat Cummins have been left out of the first match.
