Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has decided to donate proceeds from ticket sales for the tour of Australia to the government to help its country come out of its financial crisis. SLC secretary Mohan de Silva gave this information on Monday.
The decision was taken by the Executive Committee following an appeal by Sri Lankan Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe.
De Silva said, “Welcoming the Australian players, I would like to say with pride that this tour is important for our country not only on the cricket front, but also on the economic front due to the foreign exchange revenue generated during this period.” . SLC has decided that it will donate the entire proceeds for the benefit of the people.
Sri Lanka will earn $2.5 million by hosting Australia on a 52-day home tour. The first match of the 3-match T20 series between Sri Lanka and Australia will be played at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
