Wouldn’t term Australia a big team: Smriti Mandhana

The Indian women’s cricket team has to play the first match in the Commonwealth Games against Australia. India and Australia are in the same group. This is the first time in the Commonwealth Games that women’s cricket has been included in this multi-sport tournament. Team India’s star batsman Smriti Mandhana chimed in before the opener match and said that considering the Australian team strong, she will not spoil her sleepless nights, so that the opposing team can feel good.
The Indian team, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, has to play a match against Australia on 29 July. Regarding this match, Mandhana said, ‘We have played the first match against Australia in many tournaments. Any team can beat any team in T20 cricket. I will not call Australia a strong team and will not let them feel good about it.
Mandhana further said, ‘It is absolutely true that matches against Australia, Pakistan and Barbados are all important in our mind. We will think about one match at a time and try to win all. The Indian women’s team, having recently won the T20 and ODI series in Sri Lanka, will look to play in the Commonwealth Games with a boost of morale. Mandhana said, ‘Our preparations are complete and we hope that we will be able to get a medal for India.’ Mandhana said that when Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal in Tokyo Olympics, it was a thrilling experience, our eyes will also be on the gold medal and we will take inspiration from Neeraj to play.
