Pune. Struggling to make a comeback after losing four consecutive matches, Sunrisers Hyderabad will have to overcome their bowling problems in Saturday’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders to keep their IPL hopes alive. After winning five matches in a row, four defeats in a row have dealt a blow to Sunrisers’ hopes of reaching the IPL playoffs. They have 10 points from 11 matches and will need to win the remaining three matches to keep their chances of making the playoffs alive.
KKR have 10 points from 12 matches and are on the verge of being dropped. The Shreyas Iyer-led side has only two matches left and a win will only take them to 14 points which may not be enough to reach the playoffs as Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore top with 14 points from 12 matches. Remained in four.
The main reason for Sunrisers’ loss in the previous matches is the injury of their main bowlers Washington Sundar and T Natarajan and the inability of fast bowler Umran Malik to perform well. This can be gauged from the fact that the opposition team scored more than 190 runs in the last four matches against Sunrisers. In the last match against RCB, Sunrisers tried Fazlhaq Farooqui and Karthik Tyagi but they too could not work, which added to the problems of the team.
Sunrisers have good batsmen in the batting department but skipper Kane Williamson will have to shoulder more responsibility. He has been able to score only one fifty so far. Abhishek Sharma has given the team a good start but this young batsman is not able to handle the innings. Rahul Tripathi, Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram are also scoring runs but Sunrisers batsmen need support from the bowlers.
KKR, on the other hand, have had to bear the brunt of frequent changes in the playing XI. His team, however, will enter this match after winning over Mumbai Indians. KKR’s team is struggling to score runs in the powerplay. Venkatesh Iyer, however, has made a good comeback after being dropped in the middle. In the last match, both Tim Southee and Pat Cummins were included in the playing XI. And together they took four wickets.
But according to reports, Cummins will miss the rest of the IPL and is returning home to recover from a hip injury. KKR’s highest wicket-taker Umesh Yadav missed the last match due to a calf strain. The team hopes that he will be fit soon.
